Let Us Never Forget!
On September 11, 2001, terrorism and mass murder shook New York City
and the entire United States. But in the aftermath of terrorism, Americans were united as a country
in a way this generation had not seen before. People all across the nation were crying, praying, and
singing "God Bless America." The American flag became a great symbol of pride, more so than it
had been before 9/11. Dare we become complacent now? Must we forget that kind of patriotism?
And should we forget those prayers? Or do we need to consider that we must bless God if we
want God to bless America? In the book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul describes prayer as a
weapon of spiritual warfare. So as we get ready for battle in the spiritual realm for the sake of
New York City and beyond, let us be inspired by the words of American hero Todd Beamer, who
just before his death said, "Jesus, help me...Are you guys ready? Let's roll."
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray,
and seek my face,
from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. "
2 Chronicles 7:14
The NYC Fellowship prayer challenge is that you do the following as you are able:
- Keep certain prayer needs for New York City in mind.
- Pray for spiritual revival in New York City. That people will repent of their sins and come to know the Lord through our Savior Jesus Christ.
- Pray for safety for New York City.
- Pray for other concerns the Lord may bring to your mind for New York City.
- Pray every day for New York City.
- Fast the last meal of the day on Friday, and don't eat till after midnight.
Spend that evening reflecting on God's Word and praying for New York City and for other
concerns the Lord may bring to mind.
Why so much emphasis on praying specifically for New York City?
An influential city like New York can lead the way to spiritual revival in the US, and New York
remains especially vulnerable to terrorism because of its large population. Also, New York is
one of the most international cities in the world. So if a spiritual revival comes to New York, from
there many of the international people will want to take the Gospel message to their own
countries, and that way New York can lead the way to revival in places outside the US as well.
